The acronym PP GF means a compound of Polypropylene with the addition of glass fibers. Glass fibers assure an improvement of resistance and stability with a lower specific weight. Glass Fiber [GF]- reinforced Polypropylene [PP] has improved mechanical features such as resistance to warpage, rigidity, strength, heat resistance and dimensional stability with a sharp decrease of thermal expansion. PP GF is useful for a wide range of technical applications thanks to its high impact resistance.
PP GF 30 is a heat-stabilized Polypropylene reinforced with glass fibers chemically coupled to the polypropylene matrix. The shrinking of the moulded parts reduces the deformation to the minimum through the injection process. The parts moulded in PP GF have very good mechanical qualities such as high impact resistance and high heat deflection. The impact resistance is increased at high and low temperatures because of the fiber structure incorporated into the parts.
Once the product life is ended, PP GF can be recycled.
FAQ
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHY THIS RANGE MADE WITH PPGF MATERIAL EXISTS?
The PPGF footsteps were created because of needs of some price driven Markets as a high qualified but cheaper alternative for SMC footsteps.
WHY PPGF IS CHEAPER THAN SMS?
Production through injection molding allows for an important industrial economy. PPGF can be recycled and reused, which generates a lower cost of raw materials.
WILL THE RANGE OF FOOTSTEPS MADE IN SMC CONTINUE TO BE AVAILABLE?
The range of footsteps manufactured in SMC will continue to be produced and available. The production of PPGF footsteps represents an alternative, at a lower price but of great quality, required by some markets that are more price oriented.
DO INDUSTRIAL VEHICLE MANUFACTURERS PRODUCE PPGF FOOTSTEPS?
Currently, only IVECO makes its vehicles with footsteps produced in PPGF, while all the other European manufacturers continue to install footsteps produced in SMC.
IS PPGF A POOR PRODUCT?
No, polypropylene coupled with glass fibers has exceptional mechanical, physical and chemical properties - in some cases even improving - equivalent to those present in the footsteps produced in SMC.
Please note that PPGF products can be compared to SMC ones only if they contain a more than 20 percentage of glass fibers.
WHY CHOOSE A COVIND FOOTSTEP PRODUCED IN PPGF?
COVIND quality standards and attention to details are applied to all production, regardless of the type of material in which it is made. To ensure maximum strength and durability, COVIND footsteps, produced in PPGF, have a percentage of glass fibers higher than 25%.
HOW DO I DISTINGUISH A FOOTSTEP PRODUCED IN PPGF FROM THE ONE IN SMC?
Visually, there are no differences in terms of color, features or design. Polypropylene has a lower specific weight than SMC, therefore the PPGF footstep is lighter but no less resistant.
IS THE COVIND CODE OF THE PPGF FOOTSTEPS THE SAME TO THE ONE IN SMC?
The Covind’s codes are different: the footsteps produced in PPGF are identified with the number 6 while those produced in SMC are identified with the number 2.

DO THE FOOTSTEPS PRODUCED IN PPGF HAVE AN O.E. REFERENCE CODE?
Manufacturers [with the exception of IVECO] do not equip their vehicles with PPGF footsteps, therefore the O.E. reference codes are not available. To allow our customers to identify the correct fit to the vehicle and to be able to choose between a footstep produced in PPGF and one produced in SMC, we used the same O.E. code.
